We are not a dance school. Although we do like dancing.
A once derelict building that housed a 1930s dance school, transformed in to a pub and general hang-out space at 17-19 Dalston Lane. Our modest exterior – blink and you may miss us – is easy to locate if you can find the ‘Hackney Peace Mural’ or our neighbour the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden.
Inside, the stripped-back walls, uneven floorboards and vintage furnishings have become home from home to loyal patrons; cask ale drinkers, Swing Dancers and weekend partygoers.
The main floor is accompanied by a secret Social Club style basement bar, host to an array of popular events and perfect backdrop for many a private party, live music and weekend DJs. See events listings for details.
While our customers are partial to a Gin and Tonic, we constantly rotate our cask ale and craft beer range. Local breweries featured include Five Points, Beavertown and our very own Volden.
Events are a main focus and in house events are free of charge. DJs play every weekend and we have a quiz every Thursday. On the last Sunday of the month we host an old favourite – Uptown Swing’s, ‘Rags to Riches’ which takes up every inch of our main bar.
